MATTHEWS, “Bev” Beverley Bruce

“King Of The Used Cars”

Bev made his last deal at Shelburne Residence on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in his 88th year. Son of the late Henry and Violet (nee Willis) Matthews. Father of Michelle Matthews (Drew Brooks) and Mike Matthews. Grandfather of Spencer and Ian Matthews both of Collingwood, Eli and Madeline Brooks both of British Columbia. Loving companion of the late Jessie Pilling. Bev will be fondly remembered by Jessie’s children John (deceased), Doug, Melanie and Trent and their families. Predeceased by his brothers Ronald and Gerald Matthews.

A Private family gathering will take place on Sunday, December 22, 2019 and a public celebration of his life will be held at Fiddle Park in the spring. In honour of Bev’s long term dedication to the Kinsmen Club of Canada, donations to Cystic Fibrosis would be appreciated.

Condolences to Michelle and Michael on the passing of your dad. I went to Shelburne High with Bev. We also went to Mexico with Harry White in the fifties and used a car from Henry’s lot. We certainly had good times together and kept in touch over the years.

I can only imagine the party of past friends and relatives that will be driving him to a celebration where he will be doing his usual sing and dance routine! Such a big hearted man who lived life fully and experienced the ups and downs of life with determination and an optimistic spirit. All my memories tie into two families, the Pillings and the Matthews with Mike and Michelle becoming fast friends and family. Our hugs and deepest condolences go out to them at this sad time...

It was with great sadness that we lost Bev just three short years after the passing of our mom, Jessie Pilling. We do rejoice, however, in the knowledge that he is now surrounded by the warmth and glowing love of his/our God

I had the pleasure of knowing Bev through Michelle and Mike. I think it was about 1995 when I first walked into Circle Motors in Orangeville and was greeted with a big warm smile, embraced in a giant hug and treated just like family. Of course I left with a new used vehicle, convinced I had made the best deal in town. And I surely had. Bev said "Any good friend of Michelles is like a daughter to me."
I did not know Bev well, but he made a lasting impression. He was a big hearted man. Bigger than life. Playful and child like, a sparkle in his eye. Michelle, Drew, Mike and I have been great friends and collaborators for many years. My heart surrounds them with love and support with the loss of their dad. I hope the wheels on Bev's next journey lead him to another adventure.
